ZUTTO ORIZURU ZUTTO ORIGAMI ／ ずっと折り鶴、ずっと折り紙
千羽鶴を折ったら願いが叶う。終戦後、被爆者の回復を願って贈られた千羽鶴が多くの人々の心の支えとなりました。被爆者佐々木禎子さんが病気の回復を信じて、病床で、千羽鶴を折ったことは世界中で知られています。願いを叶えるため、世界中の平和の祈りの象徴として、世界中の子どもたちが広島を学び、想いを込めてひとつずつ折った折り鶴は、現在、年間約1,000万羽。もう一度折り紙として生まれてきた折り鶴再生紙「ずっと折り鶴、ずっと折り紙」。折られる度に、平和の心が織られます。
An A-bomb was dropped on Hiroshima in 1945.
It was said that if you folded senba orizuru, or 1,000 origami cranes, your prayers would be answered and a young female victim of the bombing was folding origami cranes one after another, praying for her own survival.
Since then, senba orizuru origami cranes have been a symbol of peace.
Today, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park receives some 10 million sets of senba orizuru from around the world every year.
That’s 10 million pieces praying for peace.
We didn’t want to burn or discard them, but keeping all of these “pieces of peace” was getting out of hand. Instead, we thought it important for Hiroshima to start a peace recycling system, to pass down to future generations.
And so began Hiroshima Peace Recycle.
We take the strings of cranes apart and recycle the paper to make new origami paper. The cranes’ bodies are recycled as a resource.
The cranes’ hearts as wishes for peace.
But it is a monumental task.
In order to recycle them properly, we need to carefully unfold each and every crane and remove any tape, clips and messages for peace.
Through this process, the product, which can be called the symbol of the Hiroshima Peace Recycle initiative, is born.

Local newspapers and other media outlets widely reported the launch of the recycled origami paper, so many people heard about it.
And many events using the product took place in the lead-up to the 70th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing.
The peace recycling movement was underway.
